Exposition <Art as a cure for a national trauma> 10 -17th of August at Villa Ciani, Lugano

Feeling honored to get support from Citta di Lugano, we are welcoming you to join our upcoming socio-humanitarian event, the Exposition reflecting Ukraine Before I During the War, that will take place from the 10th to 17th of August 2023 in Villa Ciani, Lugano.

This Art event is being organized to address the underrepresented voices of the Ukrainians who witnessed the War conflict and have suffered from its consequences, and whose experience might find an expression through non-verbal communication. We believe that the manifestation of feelings through art is a form of saying about the unspeakable and addressing the untransmittable in a way that can be reached and understood by every human being despite our cultural and ethnic diversity. Besides that, we consider this form of self-disclosure as a healing and relieving act driven by natural creative power.

This event is planned to be organized through ongoing partnerships with Ukraine-based projects and foundations.

Content of the exhibition (10 - 17th of August 2023):

[ ] photos contrasting Ukraine Before I During the War (by Yurii Stefanyak, Yana Sidash, Anton Balan, Konstiantyn Huzenko, Karina Piliugina, Viktoriya Yakymenko for Ukrainer (https://ukrainer.net/en/); Mykhalchuk Sergiy, Yevgen Bazhan, Igor Malakhov, Pavlo Itkin, Bogdan Susol, Svitlana Kulchytska, Lucach Marta, Andrii Mikhieiev, Alisa Mikhieieva) + video records of artists sharing the core of their work;
[ ] paintings by Svitlana Kulchytska, Maria Umanets, Natalia Kochura, Nataliya Schmidt, Vira Shcherblyuk, Borysiuk Viktoriia, Sofia Semerenko, and Yelyzaveta Moiseieva;
[ ] handcraft of children enrolled in "Trochy Vognju" - an alternative school in Kharkiv, Ukraine with a curriculum focused on trauma- and art- pedagogy

Aim of the event:

The event’s aim is to raise awareness among the local population regarding the ongoing situation in Ukraine through the perception and art production of Ukrainian nationals. The purpose of the event is also to raise funds to maintain a child psychologist in Trochy Vognju, our local partner and day school in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
